Before you install the APK
Android blocks installs from outside Google Play until you allow them. When you open the downloaded file, the system asks whether your browser may install unknown apps; allow it once and the install continues. This is standard Android behavior, not something specific to HiTV. The installation guide walks through each screen if you haven't sideloaded an app before.
Trouble downloading?
